My Teaching Philosophy
Teaching English is a
Profession
I love
teaching English. Why? I think it is because I enjoy watching the natural
process of learning a language. We are hard to learn languages and if anybody
is given the chance, they can learn a new language because our brains are built
to learn languages. I’ve read about different theories of learning languages
and how we accomplish this some think that in the first few years of life we
have a mechanism that helps us learn our native tongue. This theory would
explain why it gets more and more difficult to learn a language as you get
older. I believe this may be true however I think it is more complex. Other
linguistics also believe in the idea of universal grammar. As people we all
need to communicate basically the same ideas no matter what language or
culture. Every language shares the ability to express universal ideas,
thoughts, and emotions. Language was created through the need to communicate
which is a human instinct. Thus when tapping into this need to communicate is
when you begin your journey of learning a new language.
My
teaching Activity
How
can we prepare students to succeed in this competitive environment? The answer is, at least in part, to move them
out of their comfort zone by presenting them with realistic problems that have
undefined boundaries and solutions and that require cooperation as well as
competition. The goal of this is to help
students to learn to be critical thinkers and effective problem solvers so that
they can be effective competitors in their careers. In my classroom, I try to
awaken minds by encouraging discussion, questions, performance, imagination,
and, most importantly, good reading and writing skills.
To
achieve the goal of helping students learn, an educator must have strategy.
Teaching strategy is needed to guide the delivery of the course content and
specific tactics that can be used to achieve success. The principles that I use to guide my
teaching activities are:
1. Good
preparation
2. Mastering
a subject
3. Knowing
my students well.
4. Giving
individual instruction.
5. Encouraging
students to participate.
6. Giving
a quality standard in teaching.
7. Making
the material relevant.
8. Knowing
the use of information technology.
9. Taking
students learn best into an action.
10. Being
creative and innovative so that teaching can be fun.
How to improve myself to be a professional?
By being more resourceful, I will be able to achieve self-satisfaction
and success in teaching. As a teacher, I am open to new ideas and suggestions
therefore I would like to be more involved in educational activities, attend
educational talks and participate in forums or conferences to further expand my
knowledge. Moreover, being up-to-date with latest information, keeping in touch
with global issues and getting my hands on the latest technology are some of
the ways for me to improve myself. In my view, I could also incorporate them
into my classroom practice because as for me, knowledge-wise, teachers should
be at least two or three steps ahead of their students. Therefore, I have to be
well-prepared for every lesson that has been conducted so that I can identify
the strengths and rectify the weakness.
